Renegade Yoga Costa Rica Retreat with Philip Clift

Join Renegade Yoga Center for a weeklong getaway in the tropics! Nestled into the small beachside community of Nosara, Costa Rica from December 2nd-9th, 2023. Casas Kismet offers an ideal setting for camaraderie, daily yoga, delicious local cuisine, wonderful excursions, and an opportunity to escape the rat race for some much needed peace and relaxation.

Each day begins with asana and pranayama practice led by longtime Vinyasa Krama instructor Philip Clift. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Philip offers expert sequencing, hands-on adjustment, and overall guidance into the practice of yoga for newcomers and seasoned devotees alike. The practice sessions will combine vigorous Ashtanga-based posture series coupled with soothing and balancing Yin Yoga. Pranayama and meditation/deep relaxation will be offered each practice session.

After practice, we’ll feast on a variety of local delicacies and lounge by the pool prior to a day filled w opportunity—local spa services, hiking, surfing, excursions, or simple repose if that’s your flavor. After dinner we’ll offer a book study and discussion, providing *6 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education hours* for those interested.

About Philip:

As co-owner and founder of Renegade Yoga, I have enjoyed a lifelong passion for exploring and optimizing the functioning of the human body and psyche. My journey began with the study of Nutrition & Food Science at the University of Tennessee, followed by training in Deep Tissue therapy at The Atlanta School of Massage. Years of Deep Tissue practice led to the study of both Ashiatsu and Thai massage which I have fused into my own unique method of vigorous bodywork. Having first approached yoga as a system of body maintenance and therapy for an old hip injury, I have since progressed to a multi-decade immersion into Vinyasa-style Hatha Yoga, pranayama, and meditation—with an intensive focus on the “old-school” Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method as taught by K Pattabhi Jois, Mysore, southern India. Approaching Ashtanga Yoga from the perspective of krama philosophy, I’ve gradually developed a signature style of vinyasa krama yoga—Sadhana Vinyasa Yoga—which I teach several times each week at Renegade. Specializing in hands-on adjustments, I work to advance dedicated students individually within the classroom setting and through private instruction. I lead both 200 and 300 hour Yoga Alliance teacher trainings, and a 2 year in-depth program into the more esoteric aspects of yoga practice known as Middle Path Immersion. With over 30 years of dedicated hands-on experience, I provide valuable service within the Knoxville yoga and bodywork community.
