Take surfing lessons in Nosara

Nosara has quickly become a go-to destination for surf enthusiasts from around the world. With its consistent waves and laid-back atmosphere, this charming beach town is the perfect spot for both beginners and seasoned surfers alike. If you're eager to learn the art of riding waves in this stunning locale, here's everything you need to know about getting surf lessons in Nosara.

What to Wear During Your Surf Lesson

Dressing appropriately is essential for a comfortable and enjoyable surf lesson. Here's what we recommend:

  • Swimsuit: Wear a well-fitting swimsuit that won't shift or fall off during your lesson. Rash guards or board shorts are also a great choice for added comfort and sun protection.
  • Sun protection: A long-sleeve rash guard and a wide-brimmed hat will help shield your skin from the sun's rays while you're out on the water.
  • Footwear: Most surfers prefer to go barefoot for better grip and balance on the board. However, if you have sensitive feet, consider wearing surf booties for added protection.

Where to Meet For Your Surf Lesson

Your surf lesson will take place at Playa Guiones. We typically use Juan’s Surf Shop. When we book your lesson we will provide you with the time you will meet at the surf shop. Make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in, grab a rash guard (if necessary), have them help you pick a board, and a brief orientation. Transportation to the surf school is not included in the price, you will need to take a tuk tuk or van depending on the size of your group, which can be set up by your retreat planner.

What to Bring Surfing

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable surf lesson, don't forget to pack the following items:

  • Sunscreen: Opt for a reef-safe, water-resistant sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 to protect your skin and the marine environment.
  • Towel: Bring a lightweight, quick-drying towel to dry off after your lesson.
  • Hydration: Pack a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout your lesson.
  • Snacks: Bring some light, healthy snacks for a quick energy boost before or after your surf session.
  • Change of clothes: Pack a dry set of clothes to change into after your lesson.
  • Waterproof camera or smartphone case: Capture your progress and the stunning scenery with a waterproof camera or smartphone case.
  • Cash: Bring some cash for any additional expenses, such as gratuities or equipment rental upgrades.
